DALY CITY, San Mateo County — October 25, 2026. Daly City continues to display a warning about fraudulent water-testing solicitations on its public calendar through the end of 2026. The notice follows an earlier report of a resident being contacted by someone claiming to know of contamination in the home’s water supply and offering a test. Residents should verify such claims with the city’s Water and Wastewater Resources Department before granting access to a property or paying anyone.

What did the city actually report?

In its July 16 official statement, the city said it had received a report of a person offering water testing while asserting there was a contamination problem affecting a home. The city stated that it does not hire contractors to make unsolicited calls or visits to residents to test drinking water for contamination. As of that announcement, the department reported no known issues affecting the city’s drinking water. That statement is dated July and should not be treated as a real-time water-quality test for every address today.

How to verify a claim safely

If someone contacts you unexpectedly claiming to represent a water-testing program, the city recommends declining the unsolicited offer and contacting the Department of Water and Wastewater Resources at (650) 991-8200 to confirm the facts. Never disclose passwords, payment-card details or other private information merely because a caller claims to work for a public utility. Do not let an unverified visitor into a home.

What if water conditions genuinely change?

The city says verified public-supply concerns would be communicated to affected customers through official channels, which may include direct messages, the city website, social media or emergency methods as appropriate. People with immediate health or safety concerns should follow current official notices and contact the responsible authority rather than relying on a past announcement.
